Season Synopsis:
After a few spring practices and anng day rainout, Angelic Brewing was
a hungry team. We faced a Springs team with a so-so pitcher, he gave us a
few nice fat ones right across the plate. The power portion of our lineup
made them pay. Several base hits, a few dingers and at least one Grand
Salami later, we chased the Springs off the field. The season was on.
"This is no longer a Pittsburgh or Montreal situation. We're fielding a
good, quality product.", stated starting pitcher Mike Googins.
Another weather postponement gave us time for the return of several starters
into the lineup. Mick, Erzen, Pete Brenner, and Blane were reinstated.
Ohnstad was unavailable as he was scouting a couple of young kids straight
outta Compton. Hopefully they'll be available for the next game. The May
13th affair, as it has come to be known, pitted Angelic Brewing against the
Bavarian Inn II. To the Krauts credit, they had a pitcher who could throw
the moon ball. If he got that first strike on you, you knew he was bringing
the rain. Nonetheless, we stood in there and had our hacks. Due to some
fine defense and timely hitting, at the end of 6 we were up 5-4. The Krauts
managed to score 3 in the top of the 7th on an opposite field shot that
somehow snuck over the fence. "If I would have known it was going to be
that close, I would have gotten some hops", quoted right fielder Pete
Brenner. Down 2 in the bottom of the 7th, we staged a rally. Men on 1st
and 2nd w/ one away. Neher was thrown out trying to get to 3rd on a pretty
close play. Lousy ump. That guy never liked us. It's pointless to argue
with him, he stiffs us every year.
